Move from Etsy to your own store

You do not have to leave Etsy to start owning your customers. This page covers bringing your listings across, and why running both for a while is the sensible version of this move.

What you export: Etsy exports your listings as CSV from Shop Manager, under Settings, then Options, then Download Data.

How do I move my Etsy shop to my own store?

You move an Etsy shop to Crate by exporting your listings from Etsy as CSV and importing them into Crate, then rebuilding the parts Etsy holds on its own side. Listings, descriptions, prices and quantities carry across; images are downloaded from your listings; reviews and the marketplace's own traffic do not, because they belong to the marketplace rather than to you. The important part of this move is that it is not usually an either-or. Keeping the Etsy listings for discovery while sending repeat customers to a store you own is the pattern that works, because discovery is what the marketplace is genuinely good at and the repeat customer is where your margin is.

What does not come across

Read this band before the one above it. It is the half that decides whether the move goes well, and it is the half most migration pages leave out.

  • Reviews

Reviews belong to the marketplace listing. They cannot be moved, and any tool that claims to move them is copying text you do not own.

  • Customer email addresses

The marketplace does not give you a marketing list. Build one from the orders you take on your own store from now on.

  • Marketplace traffic

This is the honest cost of the move and the reason to keep the listings live rather than close them.

  • Star rating and favourites

These are marketplace metrics and stay there.

The order to do it in

The order matters more than the speed. The last step is deliberately last.

  1. Download your data from Etsy Shop Manager, then Settings, then Options, then Download Data.
  2. Import the listings Products, then Import. Map title, description, price and quantity.
  3. Bring the images across Crate fetches the images from your live listings, so do this while they are still up.
  4. Rebuild your sections as collections Etsy sections map to Crate collections one to one.
  5. Set up the theme Pick a theme and set your logo and colours. Check it at 360px first.
  6. Connect payments and delivery See /integrations.
  7. Tell your existing customers This is the whole point of owning the store. Post it, message it, and put the link in your marketplace shop announcement.
  8. Keep the listings running Do not close the marketplace shop. Let it keep bringing new people while your own store keeps the repeat ones.

Your existing links

There are no URLs to redirect here, because the marketplace owns those. What replaces redirects is the announcement: your shop announcement, your packing slips and your socials all pointing at the store you own.

Questions about moving from Etsy

Short answers, and none of them hedge. If yours is not here, ask us on the contact page.

Should I close my Etsy shop?

Usually not, at least not at first. It brings discovery you would otherwise have to buy. Own the repeat customer, rent the discovery.

Can I keep my prices the same?

You can, and many sellers do, because the marketplace fees you stop paying become margin rather than a price cut.

Can I import my reviews?

No. They belong to the marketplace listing. Start collecting reviews on your own store from your first order.
