How to create a discounted product
Put a single product on sale by giving it a sale price alongside its normal price. Customers see the original price struck through and the lower price beside it — no code, no separate promotion to manage.
Sometimes you don't want a storewide sale or a code — you just want one product marked down. Crate lets you set a sale price directly on the product, so the markdown lives with the item itself.
How a product discount looks to shoppers
When you give a product both a normal selling price and a lower sale price, your storefront shows the original price with a line through it and the sale price next to it — the universal "this is on offer" signal. Both prices are required: without the original price there's nothing to strike through.
Product discount vs a discount or coupon
This is the right tool when the markdown belongs to the product, not to a campaign:
- A product discount (this guide) is baked into the product. It shows on the storefront automatically and stays until you remove it.
- A discount is a storewide rule that can cover many products at once — better for a sale across a whole collection.
- A coupon is code-gated — better when only some customers should get the deal.
Tip: Set an Ends at date if the markdown is temporary, so the sale price clears itself when the offer is over. Product discounts you set this way also surface on your Discounts page, so you can always see what's currently on sale.
